Leading the Way in Medical Innovation
MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences is an accredited medical school affiliated with KNRUHS, offering a 720-bed multispecialty hospital. The hospital provides diverse patient care, with ample opportunities to learn about various medical conditions, especially infectious diseases in rural India. Students gain insights into diseases in a tropical, resource-limited setting. On average, 1200-1300 outpatients are served daily at affordable, subsidized rates. Rotations can be customized based on student interests, and students actively participate in noon conferences.
Students can participate in fieldwork, including data collection for ongoing projects like CATCH, REACH, and ICDS programs at SHARE MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences (details at theshareindia.org). Those interested in HIV-related work can join APAIDSCON activities, such as organizing Red Ribbon Clubs and HIV/AIDS awareness programs. Students will also have the opportunity to visit villages, engage with the local population, and gain insights into the socioeconomic conditions of rural India.
Medical care in rural India is limited compared to developed countries like the United States, offering resident scholars a unique opportunity to work in resource-limited settings. Rotations can be tailored to individual interests, with options across clinical departments. For those focusing on Primary Care or Family Practice, rotations can include departments like Medicine, Women and Child Health, Dermatology, and Casualty, with an emphasis on outpatient care. The MICU offers diverse patient cases, enriching the clinical experience. Residents interested in HIV medicine can attend weekly ID clinics. Case presentations occur during noon conferences, and the experience gained is applicable to rural settings in the US.
